Last night I was invited to attend the Premiere screening of the Break the Rock Concept Trailer with friends Brooke and Dan.
It was a fantastically executed evening including all the perks of being in a theme park. We had themed character door men, themed drink, popcorn and hot dog stands and award ceremony music playing all throughout the park. Many of my friends worked on the project I must admit one of the highlights of working in this industry is seeing the completed work that comes out of it. That and of course the opportunity to dress up! This is one of the perks of our industry and the part I usually most look forward to. It was one of those nights where I didn't quite know if it would be causal but then my friend Brooke and I decided that it always pays off to be dressed up! I almost didn't wear heels! Most of the men were wearing suits with bow ties and women were adorned in jewels.
It's times like these you take a breath and actually think, wow, I've made it, I can die happy.
With a little bit of schmoozing and a little 'fake it 'til you make it' we were invited to an after party with the director and producer of a production company in the Valley.I remember in my first year of University I went to an industry awards night with several of my guy friends.
Lesson number 1) you never say no, have an excuse or freak out. Yes, sometimes it is the
scariest thing you'll do. But being confident and genuinely interested and driven can get you a long way. Lesson number 2) always make sure you have money for a taxi ride to get home.
That way you know whatever situation you find yourself in you can get home safe and go along with the crazy adventure until then.
If you're interested to start coming along to things in the industry then I must admit it really is about networking, networking, networking. Hope to see you at the next industry event!
